What’s your favorite recipe?

My favorite recipe is for pizzelles. This Italian cookie favorite is the only Christmas cookie I make. I started making my first batch at 16 and never stopped.

The recipe is included in the box for the pizzelle maker. Yes, it’s like a waffle maker machine that creates perfectly flat, yet light and crispy cookies. They can be flavored and my favorite is chocolate.

The ingredients are simple but the blending and making the perfect batch consistency is a challenge. The perfect batch looks like very thin dough. Mine are smaller than most since I invested in a 4 at a time maker instead of a 2 at a time. More cookies meant more gifts and easier packaging. Plus, I love to snack on the broken pieces and my dad loves the “burnt” ones which aren’t burnt just fully cooked.

It’s a labor of love but I enjoy watching the Wizard of Oz while baking to make the experience more fun.
