Name the professional athletes you respect the most and why.

My first one is Jackie Robinson. I went to Shea Stadium back in 1996 when they had Jackie Robinson night and was in the front row on the 3rd base line. Learning about his legacy and how he was the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball (MLB) and the obstacles he faced was amazing. In 2013, “42” the biography about his life was simply amazing. I’m 1962 he was elected into the Hall of Fame and in 1972 his number was retired. A true legend.

Another player who was traded was Brock Holt. A Red Sox who worked for the Jimmy Fund who helps pediatric cancer patients. Brock used his exceptional personality and adorable son to promote the Jimmy Fund and was an active member even after he left the Red Sox. I admired his family values and dedication to such a great organization. Every year, the Jimmy Fund raises money during a Red Sox Game and brings the kids into the recording booth to tell their stories. It’s an amazing day to see how the Dana Farber hospital has saved and changed these children lives and helped the family deal with such immense stress. They take care of the bills while these children are given treatments.

My third player is Aaron Judge. Although, I’m not a Yankee fan in Yankee territory, I admire him for so many reasons. When the Red Sox and Yankees meet and brawl, Aaron Judge BREAKS the fights up. He was adopted and I saw a documentary on his life and it’s amazing. He is humble. The thing I love about his most is not only his personality and sense of humor; it’s that he signs autographs to kids and treats everybody with respect. He is an all around “home run” kinda guy. He plays a sport but is truly an exceptional person with a kind soul.

All three players that I mentioned are from different eras, different teams and different locations but have one thing in comment. They earned the respect of people not only by playing baseball well but by donating their time to charitable organizations and/or being nice to the everyday normal person. That is true sportsmanship.
