What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?
My hardest goal that I accomplished was losing 108 lbs in 6 months in 2004 by having a RNY Gastric Bypass.
It was the year Carnie Wilson, Al Rocker and Star Jones all starting shrinking. All three inspired me to get the surgery but it took me 2 years in the making to find the right doctor and get insurance approval.
It was one of the hardest things to decide to do and I had a lot of pushback from friends and family as to why I shouldn’t do the surgery.
So a few days after July 4th, 2004 I had a successful surgery and only experienced complications in the last few years. My Independence Day was for me that year and my reborn day as well. My 20 yr mark will be in 2024.
I still stand by my decision since at 32 I was dead mentally so I had nothing to lose and a new life to gain.
I learned so many lessons and took so many pictures weekly which mostly got deleted due to the lack of the iCloud but what was said to me will never be forgotten.
One quote from a coworker who got a lot of attention told me, “If you lose anymore weight and weigh less than me we can’t be friends”. Insert awkward giggle which I now know as truth.
I looked in the mirror more and it took years until my body and head caught up and I still battle with the scale and the mirror but I’m a much happier self confident female.
So much good comes from fear of failure because eventually you won’t fail and the answer will be yes.
Anything worth anything requires you to work for it and I literally worked my ass off.
