What major historical events do you remember?

9/11 will always be the historical day I will never forget. I stayed home from work that morning with a severe stomach upset. Ever heard of Empath’s and animals knowing and feeling that something was coming? That was me that morning.

I went to my living room and put on channel 7 news and was ready to tape Regis and Kathie Lee on my VHS tape. I would usually watch weekly and then tape over.

Well this day, after calling in sick and feeling my boss was pissed at me I curled up in a blanket and started watching the news. I saw that a plane hit one tower and thought for sure it was terrorism. I switched to Fox Five in NY and Rosanna Scotto and was glued to the TV and the clear blue skies that was only 45 min from the city.

I called into my job as the story unfolded and heard that they were on lockdown and I freaked out and said just leave it’s life or death now; this was an attack on our country.

My father stopped at home because at the time I was living home and he said why are you home? I yelled out the window my stomach hurts. He looked at me like omg this is bad. I would give him updates as I heard but once the 3rd plane was high jacked we all knew that we didn’t know what to do but to just watch TV.

A colleague lost her husband who was in the 2nd tower. She was on the phone with him and the phone died. He died but she did too just not physically. It took a toll on her and I always think of her husband on 9/11 because you hear stories but to work with someone directly hit by this tragedy made it real and we just wanted to wake up the next morning and have had a bad dream.

I have 9-11 taped on my VHS and saved since it recorded live what was reported on channel 7 ABC in New York.

I never watched the footage but I just stored it in a box with a copy of the New York Post. That box is in storage in a temperate controlled safe place that doesn’t flood. They say never forget but I want to be able to watch that, not to be traumatized but to say this was real. This wasn’t a hoax 50 years from now.

My only wish is that 9-11 become a day off as a day of respect even if that means school starts one day sooner or they get one less snow day. Too many people died and it needs to be remembered.
