What daily habit do you do that improves your quality of life?

I make my bed everyday. That might sound strange as to how this improves my life but let me explain.

Starting each day is the hardest with Rheumatoid Arthritis. It’s a struggle getting out of bed due to stiff joints. When I do get up and shower each day I dress and do my makeup. The last thing to do is make my bed. This “task” is the only thing that make me feel mentally healthy.

You see once you give up on your appearance or your surroundings, depression sets in. I’ve seen many family members die after neglect from depression. So making my bed everyday means the day officially begins even if I just get coffee that day because when I come home the house looks presentable. Mental health means doing your best you can do and making the bed is a task that I need to do everyday.

  1. There is a book called, “Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…and Maybe the World.” It was written by Admiral William H. McRaven. He says, “If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.” Ever since I heard that, I have been making my bed every morning too. It really does help with mental health.

    1. Omg! Thank you for sharing that. Every morning I fight myself with why bother? Clearly, the mind needs structure to achieve goals to activate the serotonin. I also put too many pillows on my bed but I think that’s a little ocd. 🤣
